Each Diamond has its own unique characteristics. These will decide how the diamonds sparkles and appears to the naked eye. Round Shaped Diamonds
The Brilliant Cut diamond, or as it's more commonly known as the Round Diamond, is by far the most popular diamond shape. Over 75% of diamonds sold today are the Round Brilliant Cut and has 58 facets. Due to the extensive period of time researchers have spent testing light refraction and using other mathematical calculations, the Round Brilliant Cut diamonds sparkle is unrivalled. If you're looking for a timeless classic, the Round Brilliant cut diamond is definitely for you.
Princess Shaped Diamonds
The Princess cut diamond has increased in popularity over the last 10 years. A modified version of the round brilliant cut, it has either 57 or 76 facets. In appearance it can appear as square or slightly rectangular. Due to its pyramid shape it creates a high light dispersion, giving it a fantastic sparkle. You may also see this shape referred to as a square modified brilliant or a rectangular modified brilliant on your diamond certificate. If you're looking for a modern style of jewellery then the Princess cut is the perfect choice.
Heart Shaped Diamonds
A Heart shaped diamond is the ultimate symbol of love. With characteristics and sparkle of the round brilliant cut but with the striking style similar to the Marquise and Pear cut diamond; it is undoubtedly the most romantic shape available. Originally produced from a modified round brilliant, the origins of this shape are steeped in history.
Emerald Shaped Diamonds
What makes the Emerald cut so different is the pavilion of the Diamond. It is cut with rectangular facets, giving it a very unique appearance. From above they can appear like small steps within the diamond. A common nickname for the Emerald cut is the Step cut. The shape of diamond allows you to showcase the clarity of the diamond. As is such we always recommend you to speak to us regarding the clarity you would like to ensure there will not be any visible inclusions, as it can be common to still see visible inclusions in SI clarity. Asscher Shaped Diamonds
An Asscher cut diamond has a very similar look to an emerald cut, except it is square in appearance. This shape also has a pavilion cut with rectangular facets similar to the emerald cut. As with the Emerald cut the Asscher cut showcases the clarity of the diamond. It is always recommend you to speak to us regarding the clarity you would like to ensure there will not be any visible inclusions, as it can be common to still see visible inclusions in SI clarity. Marquise Shaped Diamonds
The Marquise diamond is cut to maximize the carat weight, meaning you can get a much larger looking diamond. Due to its long shape it also makes your fingers appear more slender. This shape of diamond's origin can be traced back to Paris circa 1745, as it was commissioned by King Louis XV. The French Monarch had it commissioned especially to reflect the smile of his mistress. With a diamond steeped in such history, it would be a perfect choice for anyone wanting a slender look to their engagement ring or jewellery.
Radiant Shaped Diamonds
The Radiant cut diamond is best known for its trimmed corners; this is the signature look of this diamond shape. In terms of appearance, it's a very versatile shape; it can be set on its own or can be complemented by Baguette or Pear diamonds. In terms of the shape it can vary from extremely rectangular to almost square in appearance. A popular choice in a variety of jewellery styles.
Cushion Shaped Diamonds
The Cushion cut diamond has been set into jewellery for over a century and has a square or rectangular appearance with rounded corners. The shape itself resembles that of a pillow, which is where it gets the nickname 'Pillow Cut'. While the Cushion cut does not have the brilliance of a round diamond, the shape of its facets allow for a greater separation of white light into spectral colours. It is common for most fancy yellow diamonds to be cushion cuts owing to their ability to hold light and colour. First invented back in the 19th century, a long period of refinement has helped improve the overall appearance of the shape. It makes a stunning choice for any diamond ring.
Oval Shaped Diamonds
An Oval Cut diamond is similar to the Round Brilliant cut in appearance. It has a great sparkle owing to the way the 58 facets are cut on the diamond. It is always recommended for customers looking for a sleeker looking diamond. The Oval Cut diamond has only appeared in its current shape since the early 1960s; previous cuts were unable to give the brilliance to rival the round brilliant cut. If you're looking for a modern classic, the Oval cut is for you.
Pear Shaped Diamonds
You may also find the Pear shaped diamond referred to as a tear drop due to its rounded top and pointed tip. It combines the brilliance of a Round cut diamond and the cutting style of a Marquise diamond. They can vary in appearance with some pear diamonds appearing short and wide, whilst others can appear long and slender. The Pear cut was first created in the 1400s by the creator of the diamond polishing wheel, or to give it its proper name, the scaif.
